Best Practices
1. Make sure you’re within 1-3 inches of the tag
OWiC tags are only scannable from a distance of 1-3 inches, which may be closer than expected.
Position the phone so that the charm appears on the screen at about the size shown in the example image provided.
If needed, move the phone closer to the tag, even if the image becomes blurry. Being close and blurry is better than far away and clear.
iPhone 13 Pro and newer Pro models have an advantage due to their ability to focus at closer distances. Regular models may require the phone to be slightly out of focus at the scannable distance.
2. Make sure your phone and the tag are level
OWiC tags are scannable when the OWiC and the phone are parallel with one another.
Since it’s hard to know when you’re exactly level, you may need to slowly tilt the phone until an orange dot is consistently visible.
Motion can create false orange dots temporarily. Once you think you’re at the right angle, hold steady. The scanner should be able to read a tag in less than 3 seconds when properly aligned.
Additional Tips
Don’t tap or shake your device. You don’t need to click the screen or any of the orange dots, just point it at the tag and hold steady. It should scan in a couple seconds. If not, please follow the instructions above.
You do need an internet connection to scan an OWiC tag. Please make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or has high-speed cellular data turned on.
